Creation is not a backdrop
Most of us were taught to see the natural world one of two ways: as scenery, something to look at on a free afternoon, or as resource, something to be measured and used. Both of those put you outside it, looking in. Earth-honoring worship starts somewhere else. It begins with the claim that the ground under your feet is holy in itself, not because of what it yields and not because of how it photographs. That is a small change in language and a large change in how a life gets arranged.
Appreciating nature is easy and costs nothing. It asks for good weather and a view. Treating creation as holy ground asks for something harder: attention on the days when the light is thin, when the mud is deep, when nothing at all is blooming. A community that keeps meeting through the whole turning of the year cannot love only the beautiful parts of the world. It has to stay with the world when the year turns dark and the ground is bare, and call that holy too.
This church is young and it has no building. Gatherings happen in rented and borrowed spaces, and outdoors when the weather allows. No one would design it that way, but it does keep the seasons close. When the room is not yours and the sky is the ceiling more often than not, you notice cold and daylight in a way a climate-controlled sanctuary would spare you from noticing. It is simply what it looks like to believe the ground is sacred and then behave accordingly, week after week, whether or not anyone notices.
