Why tradition needs keeping
A tradition is not an object you inherit and set on a shelf. It is something people do, on purpose, in a particular week, whether or not anyone feels like it. That is the difference between a tradition and a memory. If the thread was already broken when you got here, or thinned out over a generation until nobody could say why the family did what it did, you know how quietly that goes. Nothing announces it. One year the thing is simply not done, and then it is not done again.
The Pagan Church of Christ has no building. It was founded in 2026, it is small, and it meets in rooms that belong to other people. The time and place go out by email so members can keep their privacy. That is worth saying plainly, because a church without walls of its own has to be clear about what it is: a Sunday gathering each week, a circle at the new moon, and a study in the middle of the week, held on borrowed ground. Continuity here does not rest on property. It rests on doing the same things at the same time until they belong to people.
The moments that most need a community are the ones no one can arrange alone. A birth. A child stepping into adulthood. A marriage. A death, and the long weeks after it. Those thresholds ask for witnesses, for people who know your name and will stand there while something is spoken over you. A tradition able to hold those is doing the oldest work there is.
Inheriting a tradition costs nothing. Carrying one costs time, attention, and money, and somebody is always paying. In a young church, that somebody is whoever decides to be.
What your gift actually pays for
Plainly: the cost of the rented space where gatherings happen, the work of pastoral care, and the ordinary expenses of keeping a gathering going. Gifts are processed by Stripe. There is no building fund here and no endowment, and it would be dishonest to describe one. What there is, is a small church that intends to still be doing this next year, and a set of costs that arrive every month whatever the size of the room.
