Why land matters
Earth-honoring community is hard to sustain without earth to honor it on. A permanent gathering place means seasonal ceremonies that don’t depend on borrowed rooms, a garden, a fire circle, and roots that outlast any one of us.

What it costs to have nowhere to meet
The cost of having no building is not only the rent, though the rent is real and it comes due whether twelve people arrive or thirty. The larger cost is quieter. It is never being able to say “meet us here.” Every invitation has to carry an explanation. The time and place go out by email, partly to protect the privacy of members and partly because the answer keeps changing. So a person who is curious, and probably a little nervous, has to write to a stranger and ask for an address before they can stand at the back of a room and find out whether this is for them. Some of them never ask.
Week to week it shows up as logistics. Someone comes early to unlock a door that belongs to somebody else. Chairs get carried in and carried back out. There is a start time and a hard stop, because the room is booked after. Nothing can be hung on a wall. Nothing accumulates: no worn patch in the floor, no corner that is yours because you have been sitting in it for years. A community is partly made of those small permanences, and a congregation without a place of its own has to build itself out of other materials.
The hardest part is grief and celebration. A borrowed room is a difficult place to sit with someone whose parent has just died, or to hold the joy of a birth or a marriage, when the clock is running and the keys have to be back by five. Care does not schedule itself neatly. A community without a door of its own ends up slightly rushed at exactly the moments that should never be rushed.
The long horizon
Now the honest part. This church was founded in 2026 and it is small. You will not find a fundraising thermometer on this page, a target date, or a map with a pin in it, because inventing any of those would be a way of telling you a story rather than the truth. Land is expensive and slow. A congregation this size arrives at a permanent home, if it arrives at all, across many years and a great many modest gifts, and by first becoming the kind of community that is worth housing.
Which means giving here is giving toward something you may not see finished, and that is worth saying plainly before you decide. In the meantime the same community keeps meeting on Sundays, keeps a circle at each new moon, keeps a study midweek, and keeps paying for whatever room it can get. A permanent place would not be a rescue from that work. It is what that work, sustained long enough by people who were willing to fund a slow thing, eventually earns.
